ENERGIA

ENERGIA

This is the name given to the electrical substation, which began to function in 1910, with the aim of improving the town’s electricity supply. Electricity had arrived in Palafrugell in 1900, from the Molí de Pals Hydroelectric Plant. The new building, then situated on the outskirts of the town, distributed the electrical energy received from the Pasteral Hydroelectric Plant.

L’Energia is an Eclectic-Modernist building, designed by Pere Domènech i Roura (1881-1962), the son of Modernist architect, Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and stands out for its functionality. It was made up of two buildings, of which the largest one remains on the corner of Pi i Margall and Manufactures del Suro roads.

The building with a gabled roof is taller, because it is where the machinery was housed and it is the only sector that retains its original appearance. Of interest are its large, segmental arch windows, with wrought-iron bars, that are decorated with floral motifs.

In 2015, the building was remodelled to “Authorized Center for Professional Artistic Music Education” under the name of Energia. And the Music school moved in September 2019.
