Other than havaneres, coastal paths, greenways and lookout points, we also have museums and buildings of architectural interest. Save a day to visit them!

-Josep Pla Foundation: recognized as one of our greatest national writers of the 20th century whose works have been translated into several languages, Josep Pla’s birthplace today houses a permanent exhibition (Josep Pla 1897-1981), temporary exhibitions, a private library and a documentation center. There is also a room for conferences, workshops, presentations etc. and guided routes are organized.

-The Cork Museum and the Interpretation Center of Can Mario’s modernist water tank: inaugurated in 2012, the Cork Museum is located in the city center, at the former cork factory called Can Mario. It is the biggest museum of its kind in the world. In the same area, you can also visit the Interpretation Center of the modernist water tank and the water tank itself, which has become an identifying symbol of Palafrugell.

-Contemporary Sculpture Museum of Can Mario (Vila Casas Foundation): with around 220 sculptures from the 60’s until our days from different artists born or living in Catalonia, this museum hosts different temporary exhibitions every year. Since 2011, a collection of sculptures by artists from the Empordà region can be seen at the Can Mario square garden, as well as in the Empordà room inside the museum.

Other sites of interest (with irregular opening hours that must be consulted):
-Cuixart Foundation: the former studio of the artist Modest Cuixart, located next to Can Mario square, with paintings from all his artistic stages, can be visited upon reservation.
-Sa Perola: building from the late 18th century, located behind Port Bo square; formerly used by the fishermen’s association to reinforce their cotton nets. Presently it hosts Calella’s tourist office. The fishing interpretation center upstairs can be visited when the office is open.
-Social and cultural center Bassa -Rocas in Llofriu: formerly the stately family home of Americanos, it used to be the town school.
-Palafrugell’s Library: the building from the well-known architect Rafael Masó i Valentí dating back to the early 20th century belongs to a Catalan cultural movement called “noucentisme”. It was the office of the first cooperative store in the Girona province in 1865 and, after 2001 it became Palafrugell’s library.
-Gastronomy interpretation center at Palafrugell’s tourist office (same opening hours) providing information on our local products.
